Who doesn’t love smoothies? Seriously? Do you know anyone who can’t stand the sight or taste of one of these lovely drinks? No, neither do I. Should you come across someone who has some kind of disdain for the smooth stuff, then here are the Top 7 excuses to have a smoothie. Oh and its all very good for your health!

Smoothies!! O.K. so lets first of all start off with the nutritional aspect. Drinking a smoothie is the perfect way  get a load of vitamins and minerals in you without too much difficulty and healthy eating is becoming more and more popular. People are literally swapping unhealthy stuff for the healthy green stuff and seeing positive results from it to. There’s a huge advantage in eating healthy food when it tastes good too so more and more brands, cooks and kitchen wonders are putting their talents to the test to ensure that healthy is not only good for you but also delicious.

Variety is the spice of life
Smoothies are easy to make. Just think of all of your favorite fruits you could add to it. You really can’t go wrong. But did you know that smoothies don’t have to be only sweet, they can be savory too. You can combine vegetables with fruit, like spiniach, kiwi and pineapple (its supposed to be amazing). You don’t have to add cow’s milk but you can go for soy or almond milk which are much healthier alternatives too.

Enough chat, let’s get to the recipes and the benefits for each part of our bodies or lives. Yes, yes, yes! We can take a smoothie a day to keep the doctors away on many different part of our lives and we’ve decided to split them up for you

If you want to increase brain power then smoothies that includes Chia seeds, Raspberries, Blueberries and Pomegranate are the fruit/seed sorts you need. Chia seeds is great for building neurons and strengthening connection in the brain and the Pomegranate prevent neuroinflammation (brain swelling). To make this smoothie you just need the following. Blend them all together and you’re done!

Recipe

– 1/2 cup of raspberries
– 1/2 cup of bluberries
– 1/2 small frozen banana
– 1/4 cup of diced pineapple
– 3 ice cubes
– 2 tbsp chia seeds
– 1/2 cup of pomegranate juice
– 1 vanilla whey protein power

Loosing weight isn’t easy and keeping the weight off can be just as hard at times. This smoothie includes ingredients that are known to help reduce weight loss such as Green tea which helps to burn calories. Do bear in mind that eating healthily really does make a difference but you’ll still need to combine healthy eating habit with active movement and exercise to gain the most benefit.

Recipe

– 1/2 cup of green tea
– 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond mil
– 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
– 1 tbsp of organic honey
– 1/2 banana
– 1 cup of kale or spinach

 

3 – Smoothie for Energy

The lack of sun in the winter months leaves many of us feel low on energy and this smoothie helps to replace lost energy. Energy, and having the right levels of it are important. Without energy we find it difficult to concentrate and even things like getting out of bed in the morning can prove difficult. This recipe includes ingredients that are great energy providers. You’ll notice that spinach is included in many of these smoothie recipes. This is because spinach is good for so many things and provides with with many vitamins and minerals including iron. When we suffer from low iron levels we feel tired and lethargic. Mix these all up in a blender and you’re ready!

Recipe

– A handful of kale and spinach
– frozen banana
– 1 cup of unsweetened coconut water
– 2 tbsp almond butter
– 1 tbsp flax oil
– 1/8 tsp cinnamon

4 – Kids smoothie

What about the kids? Yes, exactly! Making healthy smoothies for children is a great idea and helps picky eaters get accustomed to eating fruit  in a fun and interesting way.
Every kid likes peanut butter and most kids like banana and yoghurt. Well this recipe includes all of them and is very easy to make.

Recipe

– 1 tbsp peanut butter
– 3/4 cups frozen seedless grapes
– 1/2 banana
– 1/2 cup of greek yoghurt
– 1/2 cup of almond or normal milk

We’ve all had a hangover at least once in our lives and we all know how it feels. Horrible! Thankfully there’s a smoothie to help with that too. It contain lemon which we all know are rich in vitamin C. This recipe also has cabbage in, which may not sound great but when you know that cabbage is great for the liver then you’ll definitely what to give this smoothie a go!

Recipe

– 3 Beets
– 3 carrots
– 2 cups of kale or spinach
– 1 cup of dandelion greens
– 1 lemon
– 1 apple
– 1 cup of purple cabbage water
– 2 tbsp of MCT oil

 

6 – No more depression smoothie

If you feel down, know that you can treat yourself to chocolate and you even include chocolate in your smoothie. Chocolate, preferably as pure and high in cocoa as possible (70% +) is a real aphrodisiac  and is known to be able to alleviate depression. This smoothie is the perfect recipe to get rid of those blues in a flash!

Recipe

– 1 cup of unsweented vanilla milk
– 1 banana
– 1 tbsp of unsweetened cashew or almond butter
– Half a bar (200g) of high quality chocolate (melted)
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– pinch of salt
– dark choloate for garnish

7 – Gluten Free smoothie

Since the last couple of years gluten has come up as the baddie. Gluten is in pretty much everything from pasta, to rice and even bread. If you’ve been advised to remove gluten from your diet then its best to do just that. This recipe is especially for those of us who must refrain from gluten products and ingredients. Even if you have no issues with gluten, you’ll love this anyway!

Recipe

– 1/2 coconut milk
– 1/2 cup of water
– 1/2 cup of lemon juice
– 1/2 banana
– 1 cup of baby spinach
– 1/2 raw courgette/zucchini or cucumber
– 1 tbsp fresh mint
